No Shave November is an event that happens every year in November. It’s not just about a bunch of men growing out their best facial hair but they do it to raise awareness about men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide.
Men’s health issues are often ignored when compared to women but it’s very likely that most men will experience some sort of urological problem at some point in their lives. When any issue comes up, it is very important for men to seek help from a Urologist. They treat urology problems in men. Urologists are doctors who specialize in treating urinary tract issues and male reproductive problems.
Here are 5 conditions that men may experience for which they should book an appointment with a Urologist:
1. Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which men experience struggle with keeping an erection. It is sometimes referred to as impotence. Many men experience ED at some point in their lives, one reason for that could be high levels of stress. ED treatments that work include using a combination of treatments that include medication, therapy or lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, losing weight and increasing physical activity.
2. Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men. The prostate is a gland only in men which is found in between the bladder and the penis. When a person has prostate cancer, the cells in the gland grow at a rapid speed. Early detection can lead to smooth recovery. Early stage of prostate cancer may not have any symptoms so it is very important to get a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test done to catch the cancer at an early stage.
3. Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer occurs commonly for men who are in ages between 15 and 49. Testicular cancer is not very common in men. These glands are situated in the skin sac under the penis which produce hormones for men and sperms for reproduction. These glands are often categorized by a painless lump on either side of the man’s testicles. This type of cancer is easily treatable if identified early by routine self-examination.
4. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
If you are experiencing burning sensations while you urinate, have pain in your abdomen or notice a cloudy or strange smelling urine, there is possibility that you might have urinary tract infection. If you suspect you might have UTI, see your Urologist who will then test your urine sample to identify any issues. Normally, a UTI can be treated by a course of antibiotics.
5. Kidney Stones
Kidney stones form when your urine has less fluid and more of crystal forming substances (uric acid and calcium). These crystals grow to form stones. These stones accumulate in the kidney or in any part of the urinary tract. The pain from a kidney stone can be terribly painful. Treatment for the kidney stones can vary depending on the size and position of the stone. Medications and increased intake of water can help to reduce the size of the stone and helps it easily pass through the tract.
